Pedestrian Wayfinding
A Complex Problem
Heritage Park Historical Village in Calgary, Alberta, needed a pedestrian wayfinding system to improve visitor navigation across its expansive living history museum, which spans various historical periods from the late 1800s to early 1900s. The challenge was to design a system that allowed intuitive movement between distinct historical areas while preserving the park’s authentic, immersive atmosphere.
A Simple Solution
Hi Signs partnered with Cygnus Design Group to develop a color-coded pedestrian wayfinding system tailored to Heritage Park. Each color represents a different era, helping guests easily navigate between periods. The signage design complements the historical environment, enhancing accessibility and educational engagement without disrupting authenticity.
The Result
The wayfinding system has transformed the visitor experience at Heritage Park, enabling smooth navigation across different eras while maintaining historical integrity. It simplifies exploration, enriches the learning experience, and is designed for easy maintenance, supporting future growth as the park evolves.
