Library Wayfinding Signage

Edmonton Public Library (EPL) is one of the largest public library systems in Canada, serving a population of over 1 million people. The library has over 20 branches and provides access to millions of books, CDs, DVDs, and other materials, as well as digital resources, 3D printing, programs, and services for all ages and interests. The library offers online resources, including eBooks, audiobooks, and research databases, and supports literacy and learning initiatives in the community. Organizing the libraries information into an easy to use wayfinding system proposed significant challenges for both fabrication and installation. As Edmonton Public Library expanded over the years, additional branches were added, such as the Stanley Milner Library downtown. Hi Signs continues to help solve the issue of standardization in sizes, typography and content across all of it’s locations. This includes consistent messaging, colour management and maintenance.

Library wayfinding signage is important because it helps library patrons navigate the building and locate resources efficiently. Hi Signs provides clear signage, maps, and colour codes that guide visitors to their desired destination. This helps reduce frustration, and enhance overall satisfaction with the library. Additionally, it can also increase accessibility for individuals with disabilities, making the library more inclusive for all patrons.

Task

Layout content designs by working with key EPL team members on new branch construction and existing brand maintenance. There is a significant amount of time invested in understanding EPL’s ongoing needs, and requires highly detailed project management due to a large range of material requirements and various sizes in each location. Hi Signs offers a full-stack experience including vinyl column wraps, window films, exterior signage, interior acrylic shelf-ends, changeable magnetic signs and sign installation.
